32 figures like the one shown above were found at the site of ‘Ain Ghazal in Jordan. They are made of clay put over sticks, with cowrie shells for eyes and painted with bitumen. These figures were often found in pits, buried in groups which points at some kind of ritual use but not much is known beyond that.
