For most of his career, Bernini couldn’t be bothered to leave Italy so when the French wanted him to do busts they would send him portraits from different angles like this one of Cardinal Richelieu. They finally managed to get him to go to France when he was an old man, but he just ended up being rude and snooty as fuck to the French court because hey, its fucking Bernini.
